Biden dropping out logistics matter…
For months I have said there is no way — no way that Biden would yield the nomination. Wednesday started to change my mind. Earlier in the week, President Biden said that he would consider stepping aside if there was a medical reason. Then, Wednesday, he was diagnosed with COVID (no mask, but that’s another post). His off-ramp was clear — whatever the latest CDC guidance is (4 days, 5 days?) is what he has to make a decision. The top brass of the Dem movement (Obama, Schiff, Jeffries, Pelosi, Schumer, Sharpton, etc) have been privately (private, yeah, right) urging him to give up.
But but but…..it’s not as simple as just passing the torch. Mechnanics matter; logistics matter. First, you need a new candidate (apparently, Biden won't endorse his loyal VP), which presents a whole set of logistical issues. Next, you have to have a convention for the process to play out—and then you actually have to run a campaign (imagine that). The logistics of all of this are a BFD, to use Biden language.
